Posting to your blog on a regular schedule is important if you want to make sure that your visitors keep coming back. Google tends to favour sites that regularly post fresh content, too. These tips will help you to keep a steady supply of fresh ideas for content.

Six tips

1. Draw on the News for Ideas

News headlines are a great source of topical interesting ideas. What’s more, because industry events and happenings are topical, they are more likely to be searched for and shared. Whenever possible, post about recent events to reap the traffic rewards that will bring.

2. Keep a Stockpile of Evergreen Posts

Evergreen topics such as how-tos, tutorials and guides are a good starting point for content on slow weeks. They also offer a steady “long tail” trickle of traffic. If you post an evergreen article, be sure to refresh and re-share it periodically.

3. Use a Content Calendar for Seasonal Ideas

Draw up a content calendar that includes some pre-scheduled posts relating to seasonal issues and scheduled events. This will ensure that you don’t overlook one of the most important events in your calendar. In addition, it will help to give you a buffer where you know that for a least a few weeks out of the year you don’t have to worry about coming up with ideas, because you already know what post you have to write.

4. Don’t Shy Away from Infographics and Lists

Infographics and lists have a reputation for being over-used, but they are actually great ideas when they are used sparingly and creatively. Pick an informative subject, do lots of research and create an infographic or a list that people will be eager to share.

5. Curate Other People’s Content

Curating other people’s content is a good way to network, introduce your visitors to other interesting bloggers in your niche and find content to post on quiet days. With luck, the people whose content you share will return the favour and share your content for you in the future.

6. Draw on Analytics for New Ideas

Your analytics software can be a great source of content ideas. Look at the keywords that people are using to find your site, and look at the posts that are getting the most attention. People are clearly interested in those subjects, so give them more of what they want.
